You can't link to your shopping cart. We can't see what you have in there....

Use pcpartpicker.com to build a rig and post the link here for people to comment on.

Edit: Here is a solid gaming rig that is coming in just under $1000. You just need to add a case that you like. You didn't say if you need a monitor, mouse or keyboard, but there is plenty of budget left to get all 3 if you need them. If there is a burning desire to spend more money upgrade the video card to a 980 or 980ti.

With that kind of budget I would build on the latest intel platform rather than the last gen. Price difference between the two is minimal.

You're going to be bound by the GPU with either platform so there probably isn't any point in getting the i7 as most games won't use the extra cores. For a gaming rig I would go i5 and put the money into a better gpu.

I updated the previous build with the component you need and upgraded the gpu to a 980 for about the same price as what you have there except on a skylake build with an i5.

Unless I missed it, I don't see anything in there for a CPU cooler.

If you are going the EVGA 970 route, check out their new hybrid 970. I have an EVGA 980 Ti hybrid and love it (cool and quiet).

I would go for 2 500 MB SSDs (or a 500 MB and the hard drive). You'll be able to put a lot of games on a 500 MB SSD.
