Hi guys.I have seen a lot of reservior with an internal pipe.I don't understand the utility of these pipes...Can you explain me?

It basically keeps the fluid motion in the res calm. Calm liquid = less bubbles
 
that, and it keeps the return fluid from being sucked directly back out to the pump allowing any air bubbles to escape.
