for a while now i thought that they couldnt increase the platter speeds on a cd rom drive more then 52x or the cd would blow up inside the drive. however i saw this. it spins at 72x, isnt that dangerous?

The 72x from Kenwood has actually been around for quite some time. I'm not sure how they managed to increase stability, but Kenwood did it somehow.

How it works is the drive has seven laser beams, so it can read seven tracks at the same time. It then puts the data together, and the result looks like a 72x drive.
