The bigger the number, the better it cools. The differences are small though. The REAL advantage is that the bigger heatsinks use bigger fans, which provide more airflow at lower noise levels.

or just more airflow.

A Delta FBA0812SHE would flow more at the same noise level despite being rated for less.
