I'm about to upgrade some of my system in my sig. Here are some parts i'd like to get
Amd FX 8120 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0375765 for $199
Gigabite GA970 a ud3 motherboard http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0375772 $0 with microcenter combo
Patriot Xtreme Series 8gb ddr3-2000 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0355677 $70 with $20 mir =$50
comes out to $292.26 if I run down to pick it up local
Does this seem like a worthy upgrade from where I'm at now for the money?

Internet, music library, copying dvds or cd's for the road, some games. Like Rise of Flight Iron cross, Age of Conan, Diablo 2, and some other old stuff.
Edit: and some mild overclocking too

I would get 2 more sticks of 2GB and a decent cooler like the Hyper 212, overclock to 3.8/3.9GHz and call it a day.

Your tasks won't get any benefit doing the upgrade you plan.

i agree with manu, except get something even better than the hyper 212 so you can get in the 4ghz range yes the h60 is better

Oops, my bad... your bord does not support ddr3.

It's all good, I appreciate you guys taking the time to help me out. If I remember right ddr3 wasn't supported by the 940 or 920 black editions, the price i paid to not wait for the 945 edition.

I already went to Fry's to pick up the memory and H60 that I placed on willcall. I'll just get the H100 on the next build if it fits. The H60 seemed to fit perfect on the back of my case. I'll set it up tomorow am and post a pic. I didn't get the memory though because Fry's lied to me about having the order ready to pick up, they had the cooler ready but no memory.:mad: The confirmation email they sent me said it was ready to pick up, so I wasted $25 in fuel to just pick up the cooler. No more Fry's for me for a long time, i'll spend my money at Microcenter or Directron here locally. Here's a copy of the email they sent me right before I left to pick the stuff up.
