Ho boy when i try to log on as root in terminal window redhat 9 i use the command
[user@localhost user]$ su
user being my username then the password promt comes up but it will not let me type my password cursor just blinkes.

any ideas

when your in a terminal it doesn't show the keys you type for your password. Its the same as seeing the *** when you log in here. Just type your password and hit enter, it should work.

you dont actually type your password you type the root pasword and although the curser just blinks the information that is typed is recognised
