how important is a pci-e plug

when is it really needed and when isnt it
do you need it when buying a pci-e based system

im not completely sure about this but like AGP video cards, they require their own line of power, because they use a lot i guess... some PSUs that come with it allow the pci-e connector to be able to send up to 75 watts, but generally speaking, no pci-e card actually uses all 75, but in the future it will

so i think it is needed if you want your card to work

You can buy an adaptor so its kinda a moot point. PCI-E PSUs are only important when they arent either ATX2.0 or BTX complient.

Its not the GFX card connectors that git'cha, its the mobo ones.

wait.. so if you get a atx 2.0 PSU, you dont need a pci-e connector? then why do some atx 2.0s come with it

In order to be ATX 2.0 / BTX complient afaik it will come with a PEG cord as well as the typical 24 pin PSU and the 8 pin P4 ATX2.0 connector.

However, you can BUY an adaptor for both the 24 pin ATX 12v and 8 pin 5V as well as the PEG connector. The PEG connector uses 2 molex connections as does the 8 Pin P4 jack.

Sure its not optimal, but it works.
