now i am not 100% sure on this, but i believe it is server memory that does error checking on everything it does. Thus avoiding corrupt data. Been a while since i read up on it.

ECC RAM (error correcting code) is normally used on a server motherboard for more reliability.

Yes, ECC stands for Error Correcting Code. ECC RAM just checks the accuracy of the data passing in and out of it, so it's used in servers and other machines where accuracy is important.
