I've tried it all, showing pictures, videos, telling about my past LAN experiences, but it must not be enough!

What do you guys think is the BEST reason to attend a LAN party? Why go? How would you convince someone who doesnt 'get it'?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I need to stop typing so fast, could a Mod fix my title to spell friend the correct way?

Lan parties:

Drinks, bbq, alcohol, massive amounts of porn, trash talk, head shotting the "self proclaimed badass", just a great and fun experience when you have people there :D

two words

1337 5|*34|< !!!!!!!!

also

Pron, Drinks, Gaming, Loudness (RAWR!!!!) CAFFEINE, AND PWNING TEH NUBS!!!

GET YOUR EPIC LULZ!!!

I didn't know about all the porn at lans. ANYWAY... Build a really insane rig and show it off (in a hunk of expanding foam.... tank of oil) (yes i did those) and its a lot of fun... but I see no point in watching porn in a room full of guys....

Who else would you watch it with? Your parents? Minister?

Sharing videos and pics was a huge thing before the surge of YouTube and forum photo wizards.

true that. man i went to a huge lan in atlanta...

ou open up the shared directories, I think there was combined a TB of porn.

I'll be sure to mention those reasons to him again.

Its just tough to explain the FEELING of being at a LAN. Its great!!!

The reasons why I go are:

To be with friends and family (all of us boys are avid gamers)

To pwn n00bz!!!!11!!

To 'share'.....ummmmmmm yeah.....

The whole LAN thing for me sort of died out in early 2000 or so, I believe the number one reason for people not wanting to go was (I don't want to lug my computer around). Plus it is another one of those type of events where you have to dedicate a large amount of time and people that say they would show up, don't.

I do remember having a lot of fun though, but come way of the PC comparable consoles some people prefer Xbox LAN (I think that is pretty lame myself)

Some people just don't get it. Others are just too busy. I haven't had a real LAN party since Wintereenmas '07. That was some good times. Trash-talking, head-shotting, file-swapping. Good times.

Well the reason for pron is that more than likely most of the people there have no gf! lol

With a little bit more life experience, you'll find that porn is a very poor substitute for a real girlfriend.

I think the LAN parties have just died down because it's so much easier to just play online now-a-days than it was even in 2000. High speed internet and good headsets keeps up the trash talking and keeps down the lag (though, sadly, neither can keep out the kids under 13).

Tip for great LAN party: Offer free T-shirts! No one can say no to that.

Occasionally there will be a random hot girl that "plays cs" at a LAN. Nevermind she is filled with every STD known to man, tell your buddy that you believe that he's cooler than the other guys there, so he'll be able to take her home pretty easy.

Here's another reason that LAN parties might not be a turn on anymore.

The surge in broadband internet. I think a big reason for going in the past was to be able to play with a ton of people with no lag. Nowadays, with everyone having cable/dsl or a T1 line at school...in addition to more powerful and affordable dedicated servers, part of that draw has gone.

Although some of the more organized ones will give you an internet connection to use, have tournaments and solid prizes to winners from bigname sponsors like nvidia, redbull and bawls.

As for lugging stuff. Thanks to the surge in LCD monitors, thats a lot less weight and space to consume. However, some of us endup cramming more stuff into our PCs themselves making them heavier than they use to be in the old days. (media drives, hard drives, video cards, powersupply...all crammed into a huge a$$ case)

Well I've never been to one but would love to attend one sometime.
1) New experiences and meet new people
2) Showing off hardware and seeing others hardware
3) Just mindless gaming for how ever long you can take it :)

A reason why I wouldn't want to go is I can set up one of these:
1) Locations, they are so far away from me its a PITA
2) I might have one friend go with me, otherwise I'd be alone, and really don't like that idea
3) My Friends and I try to get togeather once a month (or 2 months) and we play some games over the weekend (Friday night - Sunday Morning). Most of us live close to each other so we just pack 2 peoples cars up and go to 1 persons place and setup.
