I'm looking into buying a new cooler, as I got eager with how easy it is to oc AMD FX CPUs.

So, all I can afford right now is SilentiumPC Fortis 2 XE1226. Here's a review with temp charts of this cooler compared to other popular coolers

This particular page is for Intel Core i5 2500k @ 1,33V. Other pages present results for different settings.

Could you guys tell me whether this cooler will let me stay below 65 degrees for AMD FX-6300 @ ~4.6GHz ~1.35V? With these settings and my current cooler I could reach even 70.

I've fitted it with a 75 CFM monster http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=136&area=en
but it won me only 3 to 6 deg C with unbearable noise.

I don't see how it would not cope as it's by just shy 6 deg C behind coolers twice as expensive but I'd still appreciate your opinion.

The FX line of chips are heaters right off the bat. So if you're looking for a cooler that will keep that chip under 70c overclocked, not going to happen unless you have really good airflow through the case and you use 2 fans for push/pull configuration. Cpu coolers are only as good as the ambient temp. If your pc is in a warm room, doesn't matter how good a cooler is.

That cooler you linked doesn't look bad, but it's not great either. You might get away with it with 2 fans, but then you'll have some noise using high CFM fans.

Best bet would be to put the 2 fans on a fan controller so you can control the airflow/noise ratio.

If you want silence + good cooling for your chip, I vote putting it under water cooling.

It's either quiet or affordable here so no peace for me :) I have all my fans under control though. By one way or another.

My ambient temp is 26 deg C with excellent airflow. This didn't help my $25 cooler but should create conditions for the SPC Fortis 2 to achieve its intended performance.

Hi, +1 on all that Nebulous had said. We really don't have enough info. on your system to give a complete answer to your question.
What kind of case do you have?
What size & how many fans are in the case?
What are the other specs of your system?
