Sure! Just make sure you find one with high enough wattage.

Or find an NPN transistor that can handle enough current (you can make one with specified capacity by using them in parallel), and use a low wattage rheobus between the collector and base. You probably won't even need any heatsinks, if your transistor is good enough. -- Paul
