Hiya guys,
My brother told me this was the place to go to get the best advice on building a PC.
I'm a student living in Ireland and I want to build a gaming PC, the only problem is I'm not that well-informed in the area of hardware and I'm afraid of spending a huge amount and not buying things that work.

I've compiled a list of everything I think I need but I'm wondering 2 things
1. If anyone knows if any part of what I've bought won't be compatible with another part
2. If anything I'm buying is known for being unreliable and if there's a better version I should purchase.
My budget is €1350.
I also plan on purchasing a copy of Windows 7 and installing it onto an SSD inside the computer to increase speed.

I'd really appreciate any and all help you can give

Welcome!

I clicked through all the links (you can list the name and add the link to save from clicks) and didn't notice a compatibility issue, however, if you are overclocking with that CPU you will want a more robust motherboard as the power delivery area will not like overclocking too much since it is a 4+1 setup.

Enjoy

It's in GBP, but that's way more accurate than USD :)
Thanks man, that's amazingly helpful. The only problem is that list there shows this compatibility issue "In order to fit, the EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4GB Dual Superclocked ACX Video Card may require removing drive bays from the NZXT Phantom 410 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case. The case only supports video cards up to 230mm in length without removing drive bays, while the video card is 266mm long"

Just wondering as well, forgetting my original budget do you think it would be worth getting this CPU for the extra cache http://www.komplett.ie/product/zkb-...50-black-edition-4ghz-socket-am3/details.aspx

Would it also be worth upgrading to larger 16 gigs of RAM instead of the 8 gigs you have listed under my original budget?

Would this larger case also be useful to reduce the heating issue http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Mast...qid=1401223028&sr=8-1&keywords=large+atx+case

I just want to future proof this machine and get a machine where the bang is worth the buck.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help

The drive bays in that case are modular. You only have to remove one section.
Its VERY easy to do, and you don't need all the bays anyway.

For gaming, I don't see a reason. It's easier to manage the heat from overclocking with an FX-6300.

No, 8GB is more than enough for gaming. You won't see a performance boost.

Heating issues are mitigated by airFLOW, not larger cases.

That intel CPU and relevant motherboard are very interesting and you've got me sitting on a fence now. I initially was looking to AMD processors as I know the PS4 and Xbox One are built with AMD processors. This would make me think that most games coming in the near future will be using AMD processors.

In your opinion would it be wiser to go with AMD in this regard or do you trust Intel to continue to be the best and most powerful option?

Go with whatever is better value. Games are more dependent on the GPU nowadays.

As for GPUs, I'm not sure if AMD or Nvidia is better value for gaming, but for video playback, Nvidia supports VDPAU while both AMD and Intel only support VAAPI.

If you can afford an 8350 and a motherboard that'll support it, you can afford a 4670K and a Z87 board. A much wiser route IMO.

^^^ This ^^^

Bottom line is the Intel platform will give you better or equal preformance in everything you do. Not here to bash AMD, it is a formitable gaming platform. However looking at the numbers Intel simply makes a better agument IMO.

Intel makes a better gaming CPU. It's been that way for 7 or 8 years now.
Better per-core performance. Look up some benchmarks that compare Intel to AMD processors in games. Intel usually wins.
And a 4670K won't heat your room to 154 degrees F like an 8350 will when you overclock it.
(That was an exaggeration for illustrative purposes)...

LOL OCnoob! Though true...well maybe not 154f, but they do put out a lot of heat! I also agree, if you can find a I5/Z97 mobo combo for around the same price as the AMD it is the way to go.

Thanks guys, you've all so helpful. I kinda went over my budget but I'm totally okay with it. Here's the final build. If you could give it a read and make sure I haven't made any stupid decisions with incompatible parts I'd appreciate it.

Thank you so much

Was never a fan of the fatality series boards, but... there are no problems with the build... GO GO GO!

Change to a Z97 board. ASUS Z97 A is all you'll need. Especially if you're overclocking on a small cooler like the 212. Even with an H100i you'd be limited by temps before the board limited you. No need to spend big bucks on a Fatality board. Unless you love the way it looks or something.

Also, if you are going with a higher wattage GPU I suggest a 600W PSU. The extra headroom will make it so the PSU isn't working so close to its limit all the time and should extend PSU life.

The CX600 is only a few bucks more than the 500.

I have to agree with the group the intel is the way to go right now, and I am a very big amd fan boy.
8 gigs of ram is all you will ever need to game.
1600 ram is as fast as you will need with intel or amd.
I would do a lttie more research on the gpu, more than one or two owners have stated regrets after buying a 770 instead of upping to the 780.

best of luck and have a ball with the new rig?
