hey would a 3570K be compatible with my setup [ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 w/ Hyper 212+ CPU cooling] if i were to get that instead of the 2500K?

which one is worth it for the long run (does IB make that much of a significant difference?)

Yes but the main difference between IB and SB is that IB is smaller therefore it uses less power therefore lower temps and better OC BUT the performance gain is only like 10% max. So to be future proof go with the IB cpu for best for money go with the SB cpus after IB launches. (at least i think can some one confirm this)

thanks Horrerblade

a progress update on the rig - so far, I've purchased my RAM [Corsair vengeance 2x4GB 1600RPM], disc drive [sony optiarc], and my aftermarket CPU heatsink/fan [Hyper 212+]

I also decided to buy a new monitor since I will be giving my current Dell to my dad, I bought the ASUS VS229H-P - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236205&Tpk=asus vs229h-p

EDIT#1 -
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the price drop on the 2500K (unless they remove it from Newegg, but I don't think they will [?]), and the release of a GTX660 Ti

don't know muck about monitors BUT at least its a 1080p monitor i don't really know much so hopefully some one else can help you on that BUT everything else that you have bought is good. You could also buy a case right now and psu. On the case really matters to you just make sure its a mid tower or full tower if you are not sure tell me your budget for the case and i can give you a couple of recommendations, Also for the psu are you going to be using one gpu or two?

well I'm pretty set on my case (650D), but if you do find one by these manufacturers - Corsair, Silverstone, or Coolermaster - with a minimalistic, rectangle design between $100-$200, I'm all for it. Another reason I'm prefering the 650D is because I can use Newegg's "How To Build A Computer" video series (which uses this case) as a reference when I'm building the rig.

In terms of the PSU, I'm looking to use one card (GTX 660 / Ti) when it comes out - IDK if 750W is overkill, but I might need it just in case I decide to OC my CPU in the future.. right?

for cases if you want to save money here are some suggestions:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352007&Tpk=arc midi and there is much MUCH more these are the ones that i just saw. And also most cases look EXACTLY the same on the inside as long as you get the same sub category (i.e mid tower, full tower, mini tower) so you don't need the exact case they all build the same only difference between most cases is obviously the look, and just functionality in the form of front panel connectors, what type of mobo they fit, and if they are water cooling ready (i.e space for a 240 on the top of the case or a 360 on the top). And 750 watts is overkill for most systems (including sli and O a decent Over clock) so you have no worries there you can get some thing like these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256072

HOLY ****

Micro Center has a sale on the 2500K for $180, but I need to wait for my paycheck on Thursday -________-

there isnt a link it came in a email saying if you buy it and a z77 mobo you get 50 dollars off so yea if you want to wait you can get it for like 130 plus the mobo+tax

wait so I don't need to use some kind of special referral email to get the deal? How does it work

No you dont just go get a sells rep from the components department and tell them that you want to 50 dollars off the mobo with the purchase of a i5. After that they will get you the cpu and show you there selection of mobos (only the z77) chipset. And when you go to check out they will take it off of the price at the register hopefully that made sense

Alright cool, see I've never been to a Microcenter before - though there is one about 30 minutes away - so it kinda works like Costco in a way? you don't need any form of membership do you?

Thanks a lot for the assistance, Horrerblade - quick and concise answers
