Hey all, I'm not sure which card would perform better and I thought I would get some opinions. I can get a Crucial Radeon 8500LE 128MB for $179 CND (canadian prices), or I can get an ATI Radeon 9000 (non-Pro) 128MB for $189 CND. Which do you think would be a better card for gaming? I don't care too much about 3DMarks...

Thr crucial 8500LE has 6ns ram AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE :)

get the 9000Pro it should have a bit better performance, are you sure you cnat get an 8500LE from another company for the same price?

Totally agree with funnyperson here, the crucial radeon sucks bad comparing to the other 8500s. If you can't get another brand 8500LE then go for the 9000. Or you can wait until the Radeon 9500 comes out(soon) and see how much they are. They will probably be around the Ti4200 price range.

Well I might be able to squeeze enough for a Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB, would that be decent? The main game I play right now is Morrowind, and I am used to having low FPS, (from owning a GF2 MX), so anything would be better than what I have :(. I basically want a card that will do 1024x768 32bit decently with some nice eye candy. The problem is I am on a limited budget.....:(

where do you live in bc?

you can get ati radeon 8500LE oem for $149 at anitec.ca (burnaby) or radeon pro 128mb oem for $140 at atic.ca (vancouver)

whoa, Morrowind is a heavy duty game, it will bring any cpu and vid card to its knees... Definetly go with a radeon 8500 but you might also consider a CPU upgrade, even on my rig the game doesnt play 100% smooth all of the time. You will be impressed by the pixel shaders and stuff that the 8500 has (makes the water look true to life), the 9000 doesnt have DX 8.1 support so it wont look as impressive.

As was said you can get a radeon 8500 for cheaper then you were going to pay for the 9000 or crucial card (yes the crucial does suck). www.ncix.com (in BC but they also ship to the US/Can) has them for like $160 but if you look in their "deals" section (called something like that) they had refurbished 8500s for under $100. Refurbished probably just means that it has been returned but it only has a 30 day or so warranty.

exactly!!!!!!! I pm'd him as that deal is the best www.anitec.ca in Vancouver and the 8500LE 128 card is better then the 9000 pro tests already proved this

stay away from ncix, anitec is better imho, the ncix is not a 250/250 8500LE it is 230/230

the 9500 for sure, there was a link posted and it compared the 3 Ti cards, conclusion was the Ti4200 was the best buy the 44 accounted for like 9% of market share, the 4200 won for producing the best value for your $$ and the 4600 was the king for nvidia if you had money to blow and want the card to last a couple of years

I plan to get a 9500 for similar reason after it has been out a bit and cost has come down

Yeah you are right the 9000 does have dx8.1 support but it isnt as fast as the 8500 and everywhere Ive looked the two cards cost almost the same.
