FX 4130 or 6300 or an older model?

My roommate has a pretty decent GPU but the rest of his rig if very dated, hes looking to upgrade the CPU and the Motherboard first.

He has a like a Centreno Quad core, and a stock Asus board G45T/G43T or something like that, and only 4GBs ram, with 1 stick having issues.

Hes wanting to spend the bare minimum, looking at older sockets too, hes trying to keep it around $150 for both the CPU and motherboard, so recommendations are highly welcome

I would go with one of the AMD APUs and a socket FM2/FM2+ motherboard since he has a good video card already.

The trouble is if you go with an FX CPU you will not be able to afford a motherboard with the remainder of your budget that will stand up to the heat and power draw.
