More expensive than a sabertooth, less features, doesn't support a 9590/9370, cramped design... who is this board marketed towards?

Care to elaborate as to which features are missing?

As Niku pointed out, it does support the 220W chips.

Cramped design? Socket area looks pretty clear to me...

Every design is cramped. :D

Anyone seen the new GA-990FXA-UD5 R5 yet?
GA-990FXA-UD5 R5
I was wondering if anyone has 1 and what they thought of it.

Not many Gigabyte fans here. Gigabyte has so many revisions because they can't build an outstanding 990FX board imho. Plus the Gigabyte EUFI BIOS is really primitive.

New model, not new revision.

IMHO new model in name only.

CHV is $100 more...

Either way I can't really afford that board right now... I've spent way too much in the past month.

I'd love to try the board though. I suppose I'll have to wait to buy it...

You can get the battle tested Sabertooth R2 for less than this new UD5.

Nope. Saberkitty is $229 CAD , UD5 is $189.
It's cheaper than all the known good boards, so if this board is a winner, the price is solid :)

I prefer the Gigabyte UEFI BIOS over that mess ASUS calls "BIOS".

In USD it's $169.99 at Newegg +7.87 shiping = $177.86

So in the case of American people, yeah this board is more expensive it seems.
Here in Canada it's the opposite until the dollar recovers more.

Still would love to try this board one day.
Not sure if I should save up for this or a GTX 970 hmmm

I have had about a half dozen UD3's and UD5's. I also have had about about a half dozen Sabertooth 1st Gen and R2's. The Gigabyte boards just seem to leave me wanting compared to the ASUS boards.

Hmm considering it's in the Saber kitties price bracket here goes

-lower max frequency
-fewer usb ports
-lesser thermal controls
-lower nic
-slower ram support
-3 vs 5 levels of llc
-lack of over current abilities
-lack of pcie frequency adjustment
-lack of adjustment all around comped to sabertooth basically
-sabertooth is a proven board known to take a beating swith a smile

So if you wanna put this gamble board up against a sabertooth put your money where your mouth is. Otherwise this board makes no sense go buy when you can get a sabertooth. If you don't need those features then step down to a 970 ud3 or a fatal1ty.

Only reason to buy this over the sabertooth is brand loyalty or it goes on a massive sale.

Reading through, it seems like you didn't actually read up on the UD5 R5. My notes are in red.

Not sure how you can say this without seeing the board tested.
-fewer usb ports
12 vs 10... Do you really need more than 10??
-lesser thermal controls
Care to elaborate?
I see settings for HPC, APM, all C-States, and Cool & Quiet

-lower nic
They're both Realtek GbE...
-slower ram support
Wrong. UD5 R5 supports 2000MHz, Sabertooth supports 1866MHz.
-3 vs 5 levels of llc
Where'd you get this info from? I'm seeing that they changed LLC from the previous board for more control.
I only see three settings on the Sabertooth. "Regular, High, Extreme"

-lack of over current abilities
First real argument I see.
-lack of pcie frequency adjustment
Second real argument I see.
-lack of adjustment all around comped to sabertooth basically
Subjective, but I'll go with it.
-sabertooth is a proven board known to take a beating swith a smile
Yes, it's proven, but how many times in the past have we seen the "top dog" knocked off the throne?

My money has been sunk into a 990FX Extreme9 for a while now. If I wasn't happy with that board, I would definitely give the R5 a try.

Only reason to buy this over the sabertooth is brand loyalty or it goes on a massive sale.
Or if, once tested, it performs better. It could easily happen.

@freQuency - 7000mhz max supported on r5 from manufacturer.

@USB ports - yes. I use all 12 of mine and still need a 4 port hub. Paying more for less is ok?

@Thermal - do some googling

@Ram - sabertooth can do 2400. The ud5 may be able to as well.

@llc - sabertooth has not only 5 levels of each, they have 3 different types of llc.

Considering am3+ is a dead socket anyway, this is a silly silly board go release at this point. The sabertooth is proven, has more options (nothing subjective about it), and is CHEAPER. Seriously, why would you buy this board? I can't think of any reason.

So, that could only affect anyone using LN2 or LHe...
These boards aren't targeted toward LN2.

I get what you're saying, but the chances of someone using 10 or more are incredibly slim.

@thermal - do some googling

No, I want you to say what is missing.

@ram - sabertooth can do 2400. The ud5 may be able to as well.

"Can do" and what is written on the spec are two completely different things.
I'm comparing specs, which lists the Sabertooth as 1866MHz.

@llc - sabertooth has not only 5 levels of each, they have 3 different types of llc.

No, it has 3 levels of each. I checked the manual and listed them in my last post.

Looks like the R5 is cheaper to me.... Not sure where you're looking at prices.

There are plenty of manufacturers releasing new boards. Whether it's "silly" or not, we need to look at all the new options.
Just because one board is the best for the money now doesn't mean it'll stay that way with new boards coming out.

Yeah. I'm gonna let you shop around for more than 3 seconds and then edit your post.

Also, extreme 9 is cheaper than a ud5 r5 right now.

I invite you to show me where the Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 is cheaper than the UD5 R5.
Please, do it. Put your money where your mouth is.

Or you can stop being lazy and finding "convenient" outs. Seriously, this is a foolish discussion at this point. You want a ud5 r5, go buy one and test it out. For now, on paper it's extremely inferior to the big boards and is more money to boot.

I'll post links when I get home.

Also, please don't use phrases wrong. You just look churlish. Posting a link isn't "putting money where my mouth is".
