HI all
I've got a friend with an Acer Laptop 3100WLMI which has a 3200+Sempron processor
I'd like to be able to change the processor for a Sempron if possible.

The service manusl says
Processor

AMD TurionTM 64 X2 dual-core TL-50/
TL-52/TL-56/TL-60/TL-62 processor or
higher

AMD SempronTM 3200+/3400+/3500+
or higher

Package Turion 939 pin lidded micro PGA Sempron 754 pin lidded micro PGA

However using CPU-Z I've discovered it's a socket S1

The service manual gives examples of processors supplied fo this laptop

CPU AMD SEMPRON 512K 1.6G SMS3200HAX4CM
CPU AMD SEMPRON 256K 1.8G SMS3400HAX3CM
CPU AMD SEMPRON 512K 1.8G SMS3500HAX4CM

CPU AMD TURION 64 256K+256K 1.6G TMDTL50HAX4CT
CPU AMD TURION 64 512K+512K 1.6G TMDTL52HAX5CT
CPU AMD TURION 64 512K+512K 1.8G TMDTL56HAX5CT

I've done more research and the motherboard code is
MBABE02001

What I want to know is
is it possible to simply swap the Sempron for a Turion (obviously using the latest bios as well)
if so whats the best Turion to use for the money considering this laptop is almost 3 yrs old now.

Obviously a TL-68 would be nice but in the UK way too expensive and being honest I don't know what the biggest Turion would work (if any)

He will be upgrading the ram to 4Gb at the same time.

Looking from the cpu's you gave that are compatible, I would say go with the tl-52 because it is the same speed at the tl-50, but has a larger cache for better performance.
