When I start the computer (The Dell I'm working on) theres the big dell sign and when its loading it hangs up in the middle for like 6 minutes. After that everything is smooth.

A few things to try:

1. Start, Run, Msconfig, Startup tab:
Uncheck un-needed programs that are auto starting in the background.

2. Install and run ccleaner (available at filehippo.com)

3. Do a defrag

4. Assuming you have an up to date AV product do a system scan in safe mode.

If it's not working significantly better, then it's time to run hijackthis to see what nasties might be lurking in the background.

I had a similar problem on one of the machines at my office. When I added a second hard drive it would boot up right away  . I still don't know why it would take forever with 1 drive(flaky controller?), but since we had a spare it was an easy fix without having to put too much thought into it.

I assume you mean the Dell branded POST screen?

What do you mean "it hangs up in the middle"?... the middle of what? And which OS are you running?
