CPU Type: dual core 165

Best Stable OC: 2745Mhz
VCore: 1.35v
Temps: Idle/Load: 30/52

Opteron 165 CCBWE @1.5V
9 x 286 = 2574Mhz [will not boot at 290]

think its pretty poor :( probably because its not CCBBE

If I want to reach around 3.0Ghz, is the 170 going to be enough? Or shall I go for 175? I use air cooling.

what motherboard are you using? that could be limiting you in terms of FSB

Asus A8N-E. I thought it was good for OC`ing. obviously not as good as a DFI

got a pair of OCZ Premier DDR400 ram modules, they will go up till around 430mhz

cooling is AC freezer64 PRO

yesterday, i tried a bit higher fsb, at 295 it did not boot [bsod] than at 294 it did, but i tried to run a 3dmark, and it failed. I went down to 289, started counter-strike, than it failed after about 20mins.

it goes quite good at 1.475V at 9*286.

it is still a leap forward comparing to my old 3000+ A64 venice, but not that impressive as I expected.

I dont really want to upgrade my mobo, so I think I will stick with this config till the summer, and then get a whole new system with intel [shame on me] core2 duo.

but any ideas how to increase performance on this setup would be much appreciated. I am new to this forum, and read a lot anyway

Offtopic: I got thew same graphics card as you, but the highest freqs i could get it to do were 703/1464. how did you manage to get to the GTX level? different cooler or what?

quick question, ive been trying to burn in my new 165 chip, 290x9 = 2611mhz, is stable after burnin for 24 hours, and stresscpu for 24 hours but gives me a summout error with prime95 running. should i keep burning in or am i good and prime 95 just sucks?

Been trying to get this thing to break 3 ghz but it just doesnt wanna go.. sucks. but this is not bad. The voltage is a afterthought since i set it to that to try and post at 3ghz +. ran at 3008 and finished superpi, but failed 3030. stepping the htt up to 334 requires htt ration to be lowered more still. 333x3 is better tahn 334x2 so meh at 10 mhz more on the core.

voltage maltatrucker? and valk, i dont think being 10 mhz over the HTT will cause instability problems :D but then again it could but try it anyway :D

Strange it don't show but it's 1.47,funny thing it boots and runs great but won't let me get into setup, now lowered to 2.88 and still wont let me but is stable even with Prime95

this speed seems to be the stable point on my core without getting better cooling or pushing the voltage more been stable under load for over 12 hours so far and very happy with the CPU :)

opteron getting better

Got my 165 stable @3066.67MHz but didn't like the timings of 3.3.3.8
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=174276

So I found this was the best, seems like I need faster ram maybe ddr500-ddr550
to get a bigger overclock as the Corsair ddr400 are limiting me to 3066.67MHz

Well I sprung for an Opteron 185 for an upgrade from my AMD 4000. All I can saw is the Opteron is an awesome CPU. I am running 225 FSB X 13 for 2925 MHz on stock voltage. I have tweaked it over 3.0 GHz but I decided to run stock voltage for less heat. Prime stable for 24+ hours the max temp is 51C. Thermal compound has not stabilized yet. I was pondering spending the $335 on my socket 939 system. This should last me until the quad cores are released in a year or so. This is my first really good overclocking CPU. It was shipped from the egg out of the California location 3/10/07. My old CPU would do 2.7 MHz. not I have two cores running faster with the same heat level. If you have a socket 939 and want the last decent upgrade grab an Opteron.

sorry for being off topic but i have a dual core 165, whats the most volts it can take? i know people recommend 1.6v max for water but what is the absolute limit?

Hi, this post is very informative; however I would like some specific information. If someone can help me then please send me a private message. Best Regards,
