i realise that most high binned 2 x 4 gig kits use these ic's as of late.
i was interested in samsung double sided kits but they are hard to find as of late

my question is simply is hynix mfr single sided very bad compared to say samsung hch9?

TridentX 1600-2400 2x8GB kits = double sided samsung. All 2x4GB TridentX that I saw lately were on single sided modules.
Single sided Hynix is losing mainly in memory copy and some in memory read tests. In general you can compare 2666 11-13-13 MFR kits to 2133 10-11-11 anything double sided.

I don't have many comparison tests right now but here are 2x4GB HyperX Fury 1866 and 2x8GB TridentX 1866:

In daily usage you probably won't see any difference. In 3D benchmarks all depends from test. In CPU tests that like fast memory like SuperPi 32/HyperPi 32 difference will be huge.

All retail predators that I saw were on Hynix CFR or MFR. That's all 2133/2400/2666 and 2800 that I was testing. Most manufacturers are not releasing Samsung kits for about 2 years. Actually I haven't seen any Samsung based Kingston for a long time and if they had any series based on HCH9 then it was probably not in mass production.
The only memory that is still on Samsung HCH9 or HCK0 are TridentX but most kits look like 2x4GB = single sided, 2x8GB = double sided. 2400 C9 or 2600/2666 C10 kits are not available since late 2012.
You are pretty late for any 2x4GB double sided Samsung kits. I'm sure that ADATA, Avexir, Team Group, Kingston, Geil and Patriot have everything based on Hynix for over a year. 1600 Avexir Blitz are Elpida. Crucial has everything on Microns. Corsair has mainly Hynix, Micron, Nanya or anything else but I haven't seen any Samsungs for some time ( since they stopped to manufacture 2400 C9 kits so over a year ago ). Even their top lines like Dominator Platinum are on Hynix - 2666 CL12 etc. Latest 2133 Vengeance Pro were on Microns that couldn't even make 2200 clock.

I have HCH9 in Ripjaws 2133 that are running pretty good and like lower voltages than usual HCH9. Sadly these kits were replaced with Hynix but I think you still can find Rev. 1 of black RipjawsZ based on Samsung.
Other kits based on HCH9/HYK0 that can be still on stock in some stores are Team Group Xtreem 2400 9-11-11/10-12-12 ( new CL10 are Hynix ) and Vulcan ( Red ) 2400 10-11-11 ( Vulcan CL11 are Hynix ).

2x8GB kits are also good if you can live with 2133-2400 clock but tRFC will be higher. I was able to run TridentX 2x8GB 1866 at 2133 8-10-10 or 2400 9-10-10 what is impossible for most other kits. However I wasn't able to make 2600+ clocks regardless of used voltage or timings.
Some double sided MFR are also good if you want to keep clocks ~2800 C11. One of my Patriot MFR is running @2600 10-12-12 1.70V but these are hard to get. Most new Hynix kits are running easier at 2800 C12 than 2600/2666 C11 and I don't think it will be any better soon as manufacturers are preparing for DDR4.

sad that the single sided mfr under performs.
