Also i was planning on taking my graphics card out of my current computer..

Nvidia Geforce 9800 gt I would also like some feedback there as well.

So please give me feedback as i want the best computer i can build for that price range.

I also plan on overclocking to hopefully 4.8 if possible but i Would like feedback there as well

Thank you.

:welcome: to the forums!

I would say that nearly any mobo with a decent BIOS should be able to get a SB 2600k up towards 5GHz without a problem. I don't think you need a near $400 one to do so.

Maybe this one Asus p8p67

Also you're missing a video card.. hard to make a gaming build w/o one!

You can also drop the HDD down to a WD black.. the differences between the vrap and normal black aren't as big as WD likes to make you think they are..

Other than that it looks pretty solid!

Is there any reason you really need a NIC card? Or the sound card?

The Velociraptors are a waste of money, IMO. The WD Caviar Blacks or the Samsung Spinpoint F3s are almost as fast for a fraction of the cost. For high performance, the SSD's will leave all mechanical hard drives in the dust.

No video card? :O

Yes i Edited my post I was going to use my Nvidia GeForce 9800gt unless other opinions sway my Decision what do you think?

Yes the Nic Card is for bridging ethernet connections to my xbox and the sound card is just because I can lol I dunno. Maybe I will reconsider The sound card.

HDD
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive..64.99

Switch to WD Caviar BLACK 64MB Cache 1TB

Sound card
Creative70sb0s88000004 7.1 x-fi titanium....99.99

Switch to Auzen Meridian 2 ($50 more. Worth it.)

Artic silver 5 thermal compound...9.99

Arctic Cooling MX3 or MX4 or Shen Itsu are better. Significantly.

I'd also switch the mobo to the Gigabyte UD7 as it is the same price, has the same features, and allows you to overclock the base frequency of the CPU, not just the turbo mode.

Also looks sexy. Er.

And no you don't need a NIC card.

Also I would not run a 9800GT on a Sandybridge system. It's like putting a little R/C car motor in a truck.

Newer tech for vid cards would be the Nvidia 400 or 500 series (min 460gtx) or raedon 58xx or higher (up to 69xx)

So other than that, would anyone change anything else or recommend anything else?

if it is just for gaming save some money with an i5 2500k cpu. sound cards are unnecassary with modern motherboards. alot of motherboards come with dual lan so i dont think you will need a nic card to link a console. get a 120 GB ssd for os and games, use a 1TB hdd for storage. get a good keyboard and mouse as well, cheap peripherals are frustrating. gtx 470's have dropped in price and are the best bang for buck right now. you may want to consider a 1000w psu because future gpu's will consume more power so if you want to sli or crossfire your good to go.

You absolutely need a new video card for gaming, overclocking that SB wont do anything in games because that 9800gt will bottleneck, so you need good gpu, drop sound card and put that extra $100 toward high end video card since its the most important component for gaming, and i have to disagree with fundip about getting 1000w psu, new video cards save power not consume it more, just look at ati's 5xxx series is more power efficient than 4xxx series and 6xxx is more power efficient than 5xxx series

Okay so I have taken my list and modified it some. I know that I may not *need* the $400 motherboard, but I want it so it's sticking around.

Could you all look at the rest of the list and tell me what you think?

are you trying to save money and get the best components? the antec 1200 seems like a really good case, but it is just the container for your hardware and wont affect performance other than airflow. there are some really good cases that you can get for less than $160 if your heart is not set on that one. also i feel that the corsair h70 is kind of a gimmick because it is no more efficient than a good aircooler. venomous x is my recommendation.

Well, Right now im at $2012.00 before tax which is alot. I really wanted to spend more like 1700 before tax. Im really sold on the i7 and i really like the case but maybe if you guys could post some links that would help. Also If anybody see's a component that could be downgraded with out any performance loss or very minimal I would like to look into that as well. Maybe a cheaper motherboard is an option??

you could get a cheaper motherboard, that one is for benching. -$100
you could get a caviar blue hdd or a caviar green for less. -$20
ocz vertex2 ssd for slightly less than an intel ssd. -$30
probably get a dvd burner for a couple bucks less. -$2
window7 home istead of professional. -$40
venomous x or nh-d14 instead of h70. -$20
evga gtx470 is $240ish i believe on newegg. -$50

-$262 total= about $1750

What would be the next step down motherboard? Also am i really building the best possible computer I can for the price? I know people say that I dont need the i7 for gaming and this and that but you have to understand i have only had one computer and its this:

Gateway Dx4710-09
Pentium Dual core cpu e5200 @ 2.50 2.50 Ghz
windows vista 64 bit
Nvidia 9800gt (The computers only upgrade)
6gb of ram
600 gb hdd

So I finally want something thats completely outrageous and that i will never use all of its power just to say that yeah I have this.

So Please any feedback Im always willing to intentively listen.

That puts you at 1741.99

I do not think you will see a serious degradation in performance.... it is still a beast of a system AND all prices are what you pay, there is at least 50 bucks in rebates in there IIRC, though i didnt add it all up so i could be wrong... but really, thats ALOT of savings... and while it may be slightly less, i would not say i SKIMMPED any where...

My .02

EDIT: Looks like fundip and I are on the same page haha, he has great suggestions as well, dont get expensive stuff JUST TO HAVE expensive stuff (like that memory thats only cas9 but hella expensive, maybe i missed something but it seems overkill), get stuff you need to do what you want, put your money where you will get value back out of it...

Details now:

Case; just a container, HAF has plenty of air flow, saves some change

PSU; almost identical, slightly cheaper, still great brand

RAM; if all your doing is gaming spending on hella ram is silly IMO, get good ram, but 4gb is plenty and you dont need super expensive stuff

SSD; your not gonna load a ton on the SSD, OS, browser, maybe 1 or 2 other programs so a smaller one will hold what you need it to pretty easily. SHoot a 60GB takes cost down another 40 bucks to 124.99 and it will easily hold OS broswer and a couple other programs... you dont NEED a huge SSD to get the benefit realistically, its a luxury past your OS realistically.

OS; what does pro have that home edition does not that you NEED it to do?

CPU COOLER; you could even go cheaper but if you plan on a good OC this is very highly regarded, heck you could get the hyper 212+ in a push pull fan config for like 50 bucks, its very good bang for the buck

GPU; dont buy a factory OC'd card unless it is on sale, no reason to believe you cant do the same OC yourself, and no reason to believe that card NEEDS to be OC'd right now

Hope that helps some

as far as motherboards go they are all first generation p67 so there isnt a whole lot of variety. i would stick with asus because it seems to be the best brand that is currently available right now as evga p67 boards arent up for sale yet.

i would consider the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe or the ASUS P8P67 EVO. if you compare features of these to the maximus IV Extreme the only differences are ones that would benefit somone working on a bench trying to get it run as fast as possible. if you arent gonna bench then save $100+. also the maximus is eatx which is 1 inch wider than atx so the case you choose has to be able to accomodate that.
