Missing file or corupt?

At bootup im getting an error that windows\system32\hal.dll is missing or corupt anyone else get this? How can I fix this? There is very important stuff on the hd please help! Thanks a ton!

You can try the repair option with your XP disk if you have that OS.

you can try to go to recovery console and extract this file in a specified windows directory.

you can access recovery console through winxp setup cd

hal is hardware something layer. that means you need to re-install drivers of computer hardware after extracting.

when you are in recovery console, type "expand /?" for help how to use this command to extract the file
