Welcome to OCF Patricia
Usually comes down to power setup and options. The Max Hero VI has a good power delivery system so it's good for overclocking. I had the Asrock Z87 Killer first and it's more of a gaming board IMO since it had plenty of power ( not as much as the Hero) but missing some option in BIOS for tweaking. Gamers typically would have good sound quality and high speed lan connections geared toward gaming but will save money in other areas.
