Ok... in my dorm right now. Which is totally amazing. But our ceiling is very very bare. So we thought of this great idea... going around the whole outer rim in blank CD's flipped upside down. So I put some bids in on eBay for several hundred CD's... but I can't think of a great way to keep them attached to the ceiling. I was thinking sticky command things... but that would cost a lot of money. They need to stay up till May, so anybody got any thoughts? Needs to be cheap, and just hold 1 CD up. We'll probably have around 300 total up in the end. Pictures of the room...

Just get a roll of double sided tape, should hold and pretty cheap.

You mean, like normal double sided scotch tape? I guess that would work, and probably come off the walls pretty easily at the end of the year. I'll try it out and see how it goes.

perhaps you can run a string through the centers of the cds and staple the string to the ceiling every 5 disks or so.

Poster Putty!
It's a light green putty made for hanging posters without making holes, greasey spots, or damaging paint.
You get enough in a package for a dozen CD's easily (you'd only need a pea-sized piece per CD).

Try wal mart or any of the toy stores in the local mall.

my question for you is....why ebay....get some AOL cd's.....no1 wants em :D, i mean i had 23 of em drop outa my tv guide today

use poster putty, hot glue?, double sided tape, roll up duct tape...

i used hot glue when i did my dorm rooms back in the day. (has to be cinderblock/concerte) though otherwise you do some real damage beyond just a small paint peel. worst thing that happens is now and then paint comes off when you go to remove the stuff. holds well. youll find poster putty and the like comes right off minuets after you hang it due to the (usually) anti-grafitti paint...
the cool thing when i was in the dorms was christmas lights, usually clear, and pressing the wires every few feet into a blob of melty stuff worked out.
could have a neat effect with the prismatics of CD's... never thought of that

Why not try spray mount? you can get it from most art supply shops and you shouldn't need much to stick a CD to the ceiling (dont use the kind for carpets, will take the paint off the ceilings) :)

About five years ago I just used the 2" wide packing tape in a loop.

Iowa State University, Friley Hall.. mostly made up of AOL cd's, demo cd's that are junk and cdr coasters

They stayed up there an entire semester, only a few came loose and had to be hit back up.

:Off topic:
Konsole, you still going to ISU? i'm there right now in willow.

i have duct tape for keeping cables on the celing/walls and it hasn't pulled off the paint yet :D

A tiny (and I mean tiny, pea sized or smaller) dab of silicone caulking(like for sealing around bathroom sinks, window frames, etc) should do the trick, and not be hard to get off later (the CD will come free and you'll have a circle of silicone that should peel off, at worst it can be scraped off with a razor blade). Or get the clear stuff and leave it up. :) You can get a tube and gun for under $5. Downside is you have to have them taped while drying.

i did the same thing at ysu. poster putty is the way to go. its cheap and one package goes a long way. all my cds were aol cds. i have about 200 stuck to the ceiling but im done with them ill see if i can find em. if i can ill pm u, gimme your addy and ill send em to you.

From personal experience Scotch 2x sided tape= bad! I doesn't come off short of scraping it with a razorblade. And if that doesn't take the paint off with it, it leaves nasty residue that's a royal pain to remove without damaging the paint.

My suggestion, stop by your local hardware store. I don't know what the brand is, but there is double sided tape out there that's about as thick as about 7 or 8 playing cards. It has red plastic on one side of it. It's pretty good. One or two tiny pieces would hold it up there all semester. I have it on my speakers to keep them attatched to my monitor. Two six inch strips per speaker, and it holds well enough for me to pick up my monitor by the speakers attatched on top and not come loose at all.
