That's weird, I use to always use Windows Media Player to watch DVD's, unless I'm going crazy. I tried for a sec before getting VLC player this time, and it wasn't working off the bat, or I didn't go the the right spot to open it. I'm pretty sure WMP always worked years ago for DVD watching though.

I don't think Windows Media Player ever played commercial DVD movies without adding third party codecs anyway. A lot of mass produced PCs come with third party media players already installed that provide the necessary codecs and media player piggybacks off of it. There are freeware codec packages that will do that as well but be careful, many of them are bundled with malware.
