Hmm rethinking on that GPU you linked just realized its refurbished and not reading much good on new eggs refurb stuff

Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC Mate LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU: OVERCLOCKED Intel Pentium G3258 Haswell Dual-Core 3.2GHz LGA 1150 Desktop Processor

Video Card: AMD XFX R7 370 2 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card

RAM: 4 GB Ballistx SPORT 1600 MHz module

HDD: 500 GB Seagate Green drive 5200RPM

Power supply: ULTRA 550w silent power supply

Case: ULTRA XBLASTER MID-TOWER CASE V2

OS: Windows 10 Pro

What's your opinion on that build? For sale in my town actually claims 2 months old. Needs more ram and an ssd from what I can see but otherwise looks like a halfway decent started and I can probably get it for like 250-300 cash

You'd be wasting money.

Motherboard is bottom end Z97.

The G3258, we discussed a bit earlier. It's only decent in games if you overclock it to around 4.5. And even then, it won't feel anything like an i5 (or even an i3), especially outside of games, where thread count matters.

The R7 370 is about 20% below the GTX 960, which, considering it costs 2/3 as much, really isn't bad, but it won't perform very well at 1080P. You'll be playing things on low.

Ram is probably ok if it's a single 4GB module since you could just add another, but if it's 2x2, then you're stuck with a max of 8...

That HDD is probably old. I wouldn't trust a used spinning disk.

Ultra PSU and case, yuck.

Windows is probably an illegitimate copy.

The mobo and CPU are worth maybe $80-90 together. The GPU, $100. Ram, $15, maybe. The rest, is just a waste of your time/space in your trash can.

Where do you live? I can look on craigslist for you :) PM me if you're more comfortable sharing there.

The build we put together is pretty solid for your budget with NEW parts.

Now, if you're willing to go used, that's a completely different story (and one that I'm honestly a little more familiar with :)).

----- Bottom line -------
No, don't buy that PC.

Lol yeah kinda what I was thinking with that price lol there's a few other I'm waiting to hear back on but no response so far

man on a budget/ multi purpose rig just avoid fx all together, I love my big, hot running fx rigs but the msi board will fail so fast it'll hurt.
go ahead and go z97 but bear in mind it is a dead socket now and the cpu's on the market are what you will get.

That ones got Me pretty interested. Don't care for the motherboard but it'll work for now 1 year old can get it for like 400ish maybe a little less

Could have just been a bad pic. I would definitely clean it out, but it's probably ok. That case has dust filters on the front and bottom intakes, so maybe the current owner changed the fan configuration or ran without the side panel on?

I think that sounds like a good deal. Used 280x would be 125-150, locked Haswell i5 would be 150. The rest would be more than 100, so 400 is a good price.

The motherboard is definitely on the low end, but you won't be overclocking anyway, so it'll do fine.

280X should be about 10-20% better than a GTX 960, so I think it's a good place to start.

Yeah that's what I was figuring is I will replace the motherboard down the road a little but gets me a better GPU then I planned and gets me in an i5

Yep, I say try to haggle him down a bit. Mention the dust. ;)

But even if he won't budge, 400 is reasonable. It's a good price for a PC which will play most games on max at 1080P. good find

Is there anything in particular I need to worry about with a used PC and anything with the dust?

I would try to test it out first. Bring a benchmarking application with you on an external HDD maybe?

As for the dust, depends on how OCD you are. I'd probably tear it all down and clean each part. As long as it isn't gunking up the heatsinks, it should be fine tho.

Definitely reinstall Windows fresh once you get it home. Get the Windows key.

Ok not sure if they would have it is a girl who's ex boyfriend built it then left her and left it there. She said I can test it she used it still from time to time says it all works. The dust isn't heavy enough to gunk it up just a decent layer inside on some parts and the cable management is **** poor so I'd most likely tear it down and redo it anyways. Is there a big added befit to reinstalling windows? I was planning to just whip the drives of basically everything but the os

That's the inside you can see what I'm talking about

Good ol' craigslist sob stories :)

Sounds good then. Just check the components to make sure they're as described and that they show up in Windows.

I would reinstall. It's a very fast process and let's you start fresh. You don't have any data on the PC to backup so that makes it even easier. Who knows what is installed on there at the moment, slowing it down. I see no reason not to start clean.

Ok I'll see if the windows key is something they have I'm guessing probably not sadly but we will see. There's another one with a gtx970 and z87 mobo but he's 250 more so I'm kinda leaning towards this one

So that dust isn't bad enough to have really messed with anything?

Definitely not. Have you ever looked inside of an 8 year old Dell? That's spotless in comparison.

If it was an upgrade to Windows 10, you won't need that key. However, you should see about getting the key for the original OS (7/8/8.1).

As long as Windows 10 is activated, you will be able to fresh-install it by just clicking "skip" when prompted for the key. Once booted and connected to the internet, it should automatically activate.

Well that's good to hear thanks dlaw should be going to look/buy it round noon tomorrow

Interesting. Is it hardware-linked? Does that work if you change hardware later?

What are the full specs on that one?
