I noticed my old computer case has 2 usb ports on the front, and the wries led from the usb to the mobo. I read the labels on the 2 sets of wires an the read:

Set 1:
+5v
+D
-D
Ground

Set 2:
+5v
+D
-D
Ground

Can this owrk with any mobo or just the one it came on?

When USB was first introduced, there were a few different pin arrangements. But the oddball ones seem to have disappeared, and the 9 pin block, with the missing pin indicating where the ground goes, seems to have become the standard. So that cable should work with any contemporary motherboard.

If in doubt, use a multimeter to determine for sure which pin is the +5. You do not want to connect the ground wire to the +5 by mistake.
