Currently I have the arctic freezer 7 Pro on my E6850. Currently running 3.4Ghz. I have the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R mobo. I just bought 1066 DDR2 RAM, but not yet installed, cause I'm waiting for my GTX280. My current overclock is 3.4 at all stock voltages.

What do I need to change to try to get it around 3.6 to 3.8Ghz, if I can in fact get there...? The ultimate would be 4Ghz, But I'm sure not with this CPU...

Thanks in advance...

"Stock Voltage" is a bit of a misnomer sometimes. If I leave mine set to Auto my memory runs at 1.8 (when it can run at 2.2v)

I would leave everything as is until your GTX280 arrives and then install it and the RAM at the current voltages and let them burn in.

Once you're satisfied they're not defective, then overclock a bit higher...

If you run into the wall, so to speak, try going up on voltages a bit more but dont exceed 2.2 on RAM and about 1.4 on CPUVID.

Thank you... Good advice. Voltage limits are very important.

EDIT: Whats the stock CPU voltage?

Download the latest core temp and read the value off the VID - that is the default voltage for your specific chip (not all chips of the same model have the same default voltage).

I got an E6750 up to 3.8GHz stable on an IP35-E w/ an HDT S-1283 cooler.

You should be able to get the E6850 up to 3.8-4.1GHz.

And you can go up to 1.55v vcore on 65nm CPUs on air...up to 1.6-1.65v on water.

The 1.4v limit is on 45nm CPUs.

oooh... Now thats what I'm talking about! 4.1Ghz...We shall see.

Ok, Got everything installed. When I try to overclock to 3.6Ghz, it works, but when I run 3D06, it reboots. I have the vcore set to 1.353, and I'm not sure if far enough..

Looks like Gigabyte boards droop similarly. Mine goes to 1.408 when I set 1.45 as well. Is it stable at the posted speeds, 3.6 @ 1.408?

What are temps like at those settings?

edit: What BIOS are you running? What are the memory settings?

I have it set for 1.5 now in BIOS.

Memory is set to default..

I lowered it down to 1.45, which equals out to 1.408 in CPU-Z.

Rock stable @ 3.7Ghz. Uped the MEM voltage by .2, and all worked!

Temps were around 62c full load

Ok, 3.7Ghz is max. vcore set to 1.45, CPU-Z reports 1.408. mem is at 2.0 I think. Vid card @ 650 core, 2422 memory.
