So, my PC has had its third major issue in the last few months and I'm taking that as a sign to just get a new one, especially with some awesome new games coming out soon. I want to keep costs down, so I want to recycle parts from my old PC to go with my new one. I'll only be using a 1680x1050 resolution. This will be my first time building a PC myself, so I was hoping you guys could let me know if I'd run into compatibility issues or any other issues with these parts. Also, I'm open to any suggestions if you feel something new that I've chosen isn't the best for the price range (willing to spend a little bit more for a better product)

New parts:

-i5 2500k

-ASUS P8P67 PRO REV 3.1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131771 (what's the difference between the 3.0? I wanted to order all these parts on Amazon for my free 2 day shipping but they only sell the 3.0)

-Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600MHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345

-Hyper 212 cooler

Old parts:

-EVGA 560ti SC

-NZXT 800w pp-800 psu

-Using old CDROM/DVDROM/Multicard reader

Missing from the list would be a new case and HDD. I'm hoping to be able to use my Thermaltake ArmorJr. case, but I don't know if it will fit the new motherboard (whichever one I end up getting, depending on advice here). I also looked at the HAF 922, but people keep saying that the fans go bad quickly. As for HDD, I could reuse my old WD 500gb, but would like to upgrade to at least 1TB. I looked around and every HDD I found on newegg had tons of reviews mentioning them coming DOA or other issues too often.

Again, this is my first time buying a PC that hasn't come prebuilt, so I apologize if I'm missing something from the list. Any input regarding compatibility and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

The motherboard should fit in the case. I'd recommend getting a Z68 motherboard though, it comes with a few extra features, and support for future processors.

For a 1TB drive, I'd get the Samsung Spinpoint F3. Samsung, Hitachi, Western Digital, and Seagate are all known quality HDD manufacturers.

Only thing I'd worry about is the CDROM and HDD drives. Make sure it's a SATA drive and not a PATA. PATA would be the long ribbon cables.

Also, don't always trust what you read on Newegg reviews. A lot of them don't actually know that much about computers, and you're more likely to go and complain if something dies then praise it if it works well.

How about this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131729 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131730 or something else??

I really know absolutely nothing about motherboards, so if you know of a better one for around the same price, please direct me to it. My knowledge comes straight from googling random motherboards and reading reviews, heh.

The CD and HDDs should work. The HDD is SATA but I may go for one of those 1TB HDDs just for the extra space, maybe use the old one as a backup.

How does the psu look? I've had this PC since December 2007 and it's seen lots and lots of use but never had a problem with it.

And finally, if I were to get a new case, what should I look for? I just found this one which seems decent: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119137 or even an HAF 912 or 922 if they aren't as bad as some people claim. I'd even consider a 932 but that seems like massive overkill for what I'd be ordering.

If it hasn't died yet, it's fine. Your system won't pull anywhere near 800W either, that's a pretty big load. It should be fine. If it's anything like NZXT's current PSUs, then they should be more then fine.

Don't worry about getting a new case. The TT Armor is quality, my main rig still uses the full sized one.

What I'd get:
Combo for the 2500K and a pretty good motherboard, saves you $20 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.736065

8GB of DDR3-1600 CL9 for $40. Plus a free SD Card. This is an AMAZING deal, I'd be surprised if it's in stock a couple hours from now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416
Hyper212+, same as you chose.

I mean, if you could sell it for >$55, that would be the better option, problem is finding a buyer. That's a really good deal for people who need 16GB though.
