Slow Computer Startup, Registry

A question mark means Windows can't find appropriate drives to truly "install" that piece of hardware. What devices are they? They could certianly cause a much slower boot as Windows tries desperatly to find drivers for it.

Aside from CCleaner (which I'll also agree completely rocks

), you might want to check out jv16. It's probably the 2nd most powerful reg cleaner out there. RegSeeker will find even more stuff, but it also finds a lot of stuff that shouldn't be deleted, so you've got to use it with extreme caution.

I installed drivers for my USB connections and disabled the "SM bus controller". I'll restart in a bit and see if it works.

BootVis is from MS and will log what is booting and how long it takes. It will pinpoint the files or drivers that taking the longest to intialize.

I had tried bootvis before, and still got the same problem; after a reboot, nothing shows up in the charts.

Went back to default config with services.msc.
used this guide: http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips236.html
it's a bit old, i'll try using a newer one later if i can't solve the problem otherwise.

fourth vote for crapcleaner but i guess thats an erroneous suggestion since (i assume) youve already tried it....btw post your HJT log at castlecops.com theyll answer within 3 days or something like that and if they dont you can pm an admin and yell...

Sorry I haven't replied sooner been really busy, nothing really bad in that log just junk if you say you have formatted and you still get a slow start-up its your hardware or just generally junk loading up. Like fraps / Winrar / windows messenger / adobe crap etc.

Load up HJT and tick these

I found out what the problem was: chipset drivers. Installed those, everything boots fine.
