Thoughts on AMD Zen?

So as we all know, AMD has opted for simply stuffing more cores into their CPUs, with no care for power consumption or heat production with the FX line, and other CPU lines as well, and not really paid too much attention to IPC or PPC. This is why Intel has absolutely mopped the floor with them in the CPU market since 2010, 2011. Intel also had HyperThreading, which AMD obviously never seemed to bother with. But now with Zen, they supposedly have their own version of HT called SMT. They're also going to be releasing 6 core and 8 core CPUs with this technology. I'm curious as to what you all think about this, if AMD might catch up again, or if it's simply going to be a cheap attempt at doing so that will blow up in their faces. Perhaps literally with their heat dissipation record.

We have a "Zen" thread already: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/...ll-Compete-Favorably-with-Intel?highlight=Zen

We also have no idea on its performance (except what AMD says it will compete with Haswell) either so its hard to form any thoughts on it from that perspective without hearing something more concrete.

If you need a thread deleted, report it and the staff will take care of it (done!). We don't see every thread so to post in it just hopes a mod comes along and sees it.
