So right now my rig is composed of:
CPU: SD [email protected]
MOBO: DFI Lanparty sli-dr Expert
VIDEO: BFG 7800 gtx (might be able to get 300 dollars for this, if so what should i buy? the xfx 7900 gt, extreme, XXX or which one?)
RAM: 1gb pc3200
HD: WD Raptor, 160 maxtor sata, 120 seagate IDE, 200 IDE
CASE: Silver Thermaltake armor case
cooling: 250 dollar watercooling setup

I was wondering when AM2 comes out should I spend a butload of money buying a whole new rig or just wait till somthing better comes out, because how good is my rig at the moment?
And if i get 300 dollars for a new video card by selling my 7800 gtx, i might be able to add some more to it, is it really worth the extra 60 USD for the 7900 gt XFX XXX?

First order of business is to upgrade to 2 GB, then look at the video card. You are running at FX-57 speeds now so going to a dual core will not get you anything but the ability to multitask better and improve 3DMark06 scores.

I would wait to upgrade to a new socket.
But $60 to upgrade to the 7900 GTX seems like a good thing to do. JMO.
