Hello everyone. Thinking about getting a UPS for my new computer.

Not 100% sure how big of one I will need. I just want one that will signal a shutdown in the event of power loss, and hold it together long enough to save and the PC to shut down.

What do you think of this one?

or this one?
(This one is a pure sine wave)

or this one?

What are your recommendations otherwise?

i got this one from Sams Club for like $139 works fantastic for my system and gives me about 5 minutes of run time powering my pc,tv,network and surround system and a few externals.

CP1500AVRLCD you cant go wrong. I have the 1350va for my living room and its running fine for 3yrs now.

I also own a UPS similar to the APC BN1250G you listed but the 1500va model hooked to my main rig, monitor and routeur/modem. Running strong for nearly 2 yrs now.

The CP1500 is good unit that have enough power while not being to pricey.

We don't get a lot of power outages around here. I honestly can't even remember the last one. With that said, I have a Monster Power HD 2500 conditioner, that I am currently not using. Would this be a good fit for a PC?> It is kindof expensive so I would hate to mess it up. Although, I don't think that is going to happen. (I have a very expensive stereo that is in storage while I am between houses for about 6 months, that this goes to.)

Currently I have it all running through one of these surge protectors... http://www.amazon.com/Monster-PowerCenter-MP-AV700-RP/dp/B00005T3U9

Power conditionner regulate the power to a "cleaner" sine wave. UPS will protect against power outage. They are 2 completely different things. Some good UPS will also regulate the power.

I dont have that much outage where i live too but i prefer to know my $$$$ équipment in safety. Sometimes the outage is caused by the provider itself when they work on the line for some preventive repair. If i calculate all i have on my UPS's, its over 5000$ of stuff and im protecting it with ~250$ of UPS... no big deal !

I am aware of the differences. Most UPS' come with some sort of power conditioner integrated into them. Since, I do NOT have frequent losses of power, I could just use the conditioner to clean the signal up some.

All up to you !

I just asked for an update on my internet modem and the guy who flashed my firmware was impressed of my modem uptime, it was 379 days. The modem is hooked to one of my UPS. We dont have frequent outage where i live, but outage can happen when there is a rain storm or heavy wind. Even if its only a small flash, i dont want these flash to broke my stuff.

What type of useful service do you get out of that UPC with your setup?

In my living room : HTPC is running 24/7, so if im not at home and an outage occur, no data can be loss. My home theater, TV and other stuff are on the UPS too so power spike or outage cant damage my stuff. While everything is idling, the UPS will last for more than an hour and a half.

In my office : While im not at home, only the modem/router/USB HDD are running. If im at home and working on something and a power cut occur, i wont loose what im working on. If im gaming, can save my game and shut down the PC cause the UPS last for ~10 min while gaming. If only modem/router run, the UPS last for hours.

Sometime when i listen TV, rarely, i see my living room UPS switching on cause he sensed something. I go in my office and the UPS is on too so something really happened but what ? i dont know. I live in a 2007 building so cabling are new. The road im on is nearly as new so even the pole/wires outside are new too. Do i absolutely need a UPS ? No, but i like to know that my stuff is on safe current.

Sounds good, I think that I will order that pure sine wave one later tonight... I have a lot of money invested in this PC, I would hate to waste it.

yea it never hurts to protect your investments:)
i wouldn't dream of having this pc running on this towns power without some sort of protection.we have spikes, brown outs, when we do loose power they flip it back on and off like 6 times before they actually get it working right...just horrible service out here in NM but it is cheep lol.
