I am trying to water cool my computer. If bought the XSPC Raystorm block few years ago. Turns out there Asus has a plastic backplate for the cpu socket holder.

The RayStorm backplate will not fit because of the plastic backplate in the way.

You can see the backplate at http://www.technopat.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Asus-Maximus-VI-HERO-17.jpg

Anyone have experience working around this? Is there adapter I can use or do I have to go with another waterblock?

You might need a new hold down kit for the new socket if you don't already have the LGA1155 kit. That backplate (or very similar) is standard on the LGA1155 platform. My Sabertooth Z77 has a metal plate there, and my Raystorm fit without any issue.

Failing that, moterboard standoffs will space the backplate enough to clear np. That backplate is super hard and won't bent no need to worry.

As iLoki has pointed out, that backplate is standard.

Here's a review I found of a Raystorm kit that shows it being installed on a Z68 motherboard.

1155 and 1150 are the same install instructions for the Raystorm. You can see the backplate piece on the motherboard with the Raystorm backplate installed over it.

What mounting kit are you using? Does it look like the one in the review? Again, as iLoki suggested, you may need to order a new mounting kit for 1155/1150 if that's missing.

My backplate is the same as in the review my the hold down backplate on the Maximus is larger.

I couldn't find any hold down kits but I can across cooljag backplate which looks like it might work. I just need to make sure that thread size is the same.

Can you take a picture for us so that we can easily see the fitment issue? We might be able to provide a better suggestion if we can see what's wrong.

The T fits over the rectangle. It's supposed to fit on top of it, not around it.

Edit:

I've drawn a dashed line to show where the edge rectangular backplate of the 1150/1155 motherboard would be if the Raystorm backplate wasn't there.

Its actually quite nice if you have a case that doesn't have a backplate cutout for cpu.
Everything clamps together securely but I can't be the only one who found the stock hardware extremly stiff on lga1150. Almost couldn't thread the bolts and when I did, the toplate was pretty bent.
Added motherboard standoffs and its perfect.
