Z87m with G3258, no more than 1333mhz on ram?

Hey there,

I have an AsRock Z87m OC Formula with G.Skill 1600mhz ram blocks and G3258 Pentium cpu.

My question is, is my CPU restricting me to 1333mhz?

With the XMP profil loaded, and even manually set 1600mhz in the bios, the ram sticks to 1333mhz.

Why is this?

You are correct. TThe cpu is throttling the ram to 1333.

That CPU should not be holding that ram back like that at all...Here is a list of memory overclocks on air for that CPU...http://hwbot.org/benchmark/memory_c...641&cores=2#start=0#interval=20#coolingType=2

You have a Z87 board with a new chip, did you update the bios on the board? The CPU support list shows you need P1.60 bios on there...that is where I would start.

Bios is updated, wouldnt run CPU without.

Just tried manual setting in Bios and xmp, no other ram tested.

Well, let's see if other ram works for some odd reason...

Can you post bios screenshots of what you are changing in the bios as well as some CPUz screenshots (main, memory and SPD tabs please).
