Since the release of its first DirectX 11 capable graphics card, the Radeon HD5870, ATI has been releasing a new product every month or so with the sole goal of dominating the market in every segment. That goal was achieved as until now, everybody wishing to buy a DX11 compatible card had to choose from ATI’s lineup. This week, the company displayed the last piece of their arsenal by presenting the new Radeon HD5870 Eyefinity6 graphics card.

Eyefinity is best described in ATI’s own words: “Think of it as surround-sight.” Surround indeed, as the reference card is able to display on up to six monitors at a time and at resolutions reaching 5760×2160 pixels. In order to improve performance at ultra-high resolutions, ATI has increased the specifications of the Eyefinity version compared to the standard HD5870. The “surround-sight” version features a core clock of 850Mhz and 2GB of dedicated memory. The standard card operates at 800Mhz along with 1GB of memory. The other specs are the same, except for the usual display connectors that have been replaced with six mini display ports. MSRP is set at 479.99$, which is 80$ more than the suggested price for the standard HD5870.

The card aims at a niche market so don’t expect great availability. In fact, thanks to oveclockers.com, it might be much easier to find a review than an actual card!
