Hello all.
i've been thinking about a water cooling setup for my machine
there is a good chance i'll start with a permade kit
but i am also thinkign about some more radical ideas.

my system is in a strategic postion so i
can just drill 2 big holes in the wall and put the
water cooling setup on the next room behind the TV and
some table.

the question is :
how large will a passive radiator / chain of heatcores whatever
need to be to passivly cool the water?

i have at least
50cm X 200cm of space where this radiator won't be
seen.

how large a pump would i need to push all the water
in that setup>?

can this pump/s be submarged in water for
silent operation?

last question :

if i go to junkyard and get heatcores from old cars
is there something spesific to look for? or will anything do?

thanx.

If you have that much space, just go to the junk yard and get a car radiator. Heck maybe two!!;) And the flow restriction of that can't be all that much.

Yes you can submerge your pump, just make sure that it is submersible.

I think that for a passive radiator to work properly it needs to have a cooling area something like 1500 times the size of your CPU, more is always better of course. Someone correct me if this isn't right. Check the tips & techniques section and do a find on this page, and look for passive radiators, there's a good article there by Petar.

Just curious, what's the point of putting everything in the other room? If your going to go passive radiator w/ silent pump that noise shouldn't be an issue...

thanx for your help.

A. i might not be able to get a submersiable pump
so i can just put a regular pump in a noise dampend box

B. on the other room i got tons of hidden space
behind the living room TV so its easier then
hanging it ugly on my own walls.

This is about the best thing you can do with an external setup (this happens to look awesome too: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=284451
IMO passive cooling takes way too much work. Just get some quiet 120s or blowers. Also, most pumps are silent, they just vibrate a little (put something under them). I know my mag and my via are (the via needs a small mod though).
If you have a lot of room you can create a sick setup.
