hello,

will a cpu perform more efficient if its at a lower temperature

versus a highly overclocked cpu at a high temperture
 
The OC will always perform faster, as long as you can keep the processor under its max temp.

That being said, lower temps are better for long life of chips.
 
Yeah, it might only last five years instead of ten if you overclock it and increase the voltages. But who keeps one five years these days? Those of us who frequent this forum certainly don't! The upgrade bug takes over long before that.
 
Oh, I definitely agree, but my statement was more of a "keep temps in check" than a "don't overclock to keep it cool".

The processor manufacturer has already set the Cpu up for best performance to power usage.

You can increase efficiencies by lower voltage at the same clock speeds.

Use less energy to get the same job done is where it's at. Even while overclocking, you'd want to use the lowest voltage possible.
