Changing out case,motherboard,and power supply.
running win.Xp home. will use old hd. wd20gig 7200,cdrom-52x,
lite-on 24x10x40cdr,nv-ti 500 vid card. 512meg ddr.
new motherboard will be asus a7v266-E
new case Chieftec dx-101DB full tower.
new power supply Enermax [email protected]

can I install old HD loaded or will I have to do a full format?

I agree. You aren't going to save yourself any time by not doing it, it takes Windows forever to detect and install the new hardware. And the chances of running into problems that way are more likely than not. So in my opinion it's not only the best way, but really also the fastest way.
