I'd agree with the above that a case isn't necessary, but I prefer one nonetheless.
 
This was YEARS ago, mid nineties, but I had a coworker who was a total nut. Anyway, he mounted his components on his wall. Of course this was back in the day when you could cool a CPU using a Hs no bigger than what I would put on a mosfet these days, but I digress.
