My fan sensors are not reading speed

I have an abit kx-7 333 and I have connected the 3 pin wire from my cpu fan to fan sensor 1 , i also have tried fan sensor 2. But in bios neither my chassis fan and cpu fan are being read it just says N/A and I know they are both on and working.

What have i done wrong w/ the connections.

Are the fans running at 12V or 7V? If at 7V you will not be able to read the RPM.
