What is the best card I can get for PCI E x16? What is the difference between that and PCI E 2.0? Are these backwards compatible?

Yes they are backward compatible.

Its all about your needs. But the best BANG currently are the HD4870.

If you to be be rdy with DX11, HD5770 or HD5850.

Depand on the money you have.

It depends for what purpose and at what resolution. For your resolution of 1600x1200 and gaming purposes, I'd look no further than a Radeon 4890 or 5770.

Ok, thanks guys. I am going to get a new wide screen monitor so my res will be going up. Not sure what size yet.
