Thought that this made interesting reading, checkout the warning section Here . Seems that there are problems with cracking and chipping with CPU's of 1GHz and above. This company is trying to get AMD to accept responsability for the problem.
Whoever wants to pursue this leagally will have a long uphill battle. It will all be based on user install. If major OEMs who use automated machines to mount HSs never have or have an extremely low rate of core damage AMD will state it user error the reason why WE are having so many problems. And that will be the way the courts see it IMHO.
Now would you pay extra for a core crush protection policy? Knowing the rate of people who do not buy retail warrantees cause it costs marginally more than OEM I doubt that people will opt for the crush protection... now if AMD would simply make strongr cores... lol nah they would lose 25% of their business!
