Question, how many people in this thread
1. made a startup USB with a DOS version of hard drive manufacturer diagnostic on it.
2. ran an ADVANCED or EXTENDED scan option from a DOS startup USB (not Windows!) overnight (since it takes many hours to complete.)

...before putting any files on it??

I just spent big money on a Western Digital Black 2TB drive (2TB so I can use it on both WinXP and Win 8/10 from my multiboot) and I still did this last night before putting any files on it.

Using a hard drive without running a multi-hour advanced diagnostic scan first is :D SUICIDAL :D

Will test when ill buy a new HDD, Thanks :).

I can think of no more important advice in Storage section of the forums.
Whichever moderator reads this post, may I suggest a sticky about this?

Advanced/Extended test prior to placing any files on the hard drive would save untold number of hours of frustration and TB's of needlessly lost data.
