Thanks for the feedback!

Others' OC profile, though, still gives you a ROUGH idea of where you can go, no?

As you have said, it will take a while to further tweak the new card.

The bright side is that I stepped up from the old 640MB G80 8800 GTS to the new GTS with only $15!

So I am happy about that!

You're right, looking at others gives you a rough idea of what you can expect. However, I find on hardcore forums such as Xtremesystems.org people push it to levels which are not attainable by the average OCer, or they use "benchmark only" OCs which are not 24/7 stable.

I too, went from the 8800 GTS 640mb to this and I love it. It cost me less than $50 after EBAYing my old card, and the performance is definitively noticeable. I get higher FPS in games at 1600 x 1200 with this card than I did with the old one @ 1280 X 960. In a month I'll get the E8400 to complete my upgrade and then I'll give Crysis a shot, lol.

Good to hear about your new card, however, never just copy OCs from others. Make sure that you do all your own testing, as different cards in different setups perform differently. I just finished testing my XFX 8800 GTS 512 which took two full days. I usually run ATI tool for 1 hour straight (good for memory testing), then Oblivion for 1 hour (I just leave it on the 'create a character' screen which I find really heats up the card and stresses the shaders). Then I run 3dmark 05 on a loop for over 1 hour, after which I run 3dmark 06 for over 1 hour on a loop. Moreover, I do all these tests back to back as to keep my card hot and stressed. Once I find the max. stable frequencies after all these tests, I begin to run all my games. So far I am standing @ 778/1900/1080MHz core/shader/memory with the fan @ 56%.

P.S. For just one pass on 3dmark 05/06, I was able to run 800/2000/2200MHz

To really test memory for stability try running 3DMARK03 Battle of proxycon in a look for about 5 times, I thought my memory was stable with ATI tool, Fur OpenGL rendering tool etc and with the Proxycon loop I got artifacting after the 4th loop...
This is a tip from our forums resident GPU expert Viper John :)

I know what you mean '3DMARK03 Battle of proxycon' was also the most sensitive to my core increase. It froze on its 7th or 8th loop when I had the core @ around 790MHz, when everything else was fine. I forgot to mention that I loop this one as well, along with my whole other regiment.

That test is really for the vRAM. If you have issues then you probably need to reduce your vRAM clocks 1 notch. However, sometimes the core, shader, and vRAM clocks can interfere w/ each other, and you need to compromise and decide which clocks yield the best results while maintaining stability.

Best test I have foudn to test if it is stable is to run mark01 nature 25 times in a loop with no title screen

Stability test, eh? Why not play games and clock down when things get rough? I figure if it games w/ what I play, well, that's all that matters.

I'm currently playing Crysis/COD4 on an EVGA 8800GTS 512 w/

Stock fan/paste @ 50%
756/1890/1101(2202)
Room temp 24C
Load temp 69C

That's probably all she has in her, but it's plenty fast for COD4 MP @ 1680x1050 w/ some 2x TSAA. :D
