How Pursuasive Are You?

This might be fun, or at least instructive.

This is an experiment. If this works well, we may make this a regular feature, set up prizes, things like that.

Here’s the challenge:

Somebody asks you whether he should buy AMD or Intel for his next computer system, which he’ll buy in a week. In one hundred words or less, compare the two and advise him which one to buy.

He can go up to $1,000 for the computer (without monitor). He’s open to moderately overclock (no water, no pelts, no voltage mods). He doesn’t know what he’s going to do with it. He’s a father with kids around ten years old.

After you advise him, he’s going to come talk to me and ask me about your opinion. So if you BS him, you’re dogmeat. If you only present one side of the argument, or leave out inconvenient facts favoring the other side, you’re dogmeat.

Email me your responses at the address listed below.

The resultant article will put up the best responses (please indicate if you’d like your name and/or email address included).

It will also include the worst responses and the most common errors made in arguing one side or another, and why. All of those will be strictly anonymous, so if I see a real piece of work and do an Ann Robinson number on you, no one else will know. Hell, I won’t even remember for any length of time.

So don’t get your panties in a twist if you write something that isn’t too good. Be a man, learn from it, and get better.

The idea is to come up with a better, or least a more entertaining, way to talk about issues. Let’s see how this works.
