Speeze EasyStream ™ 9T236B1M3

Quiet with sedate peformance – for P4 — Joe

SUMMARY: Conventional aluminum extrusion heatsink with quiet fan, sedate performance.

EasyStream™

Size: 78×90×47mm high; Fan: 21.7 cfm @ 3500 rpm; Lever Arm halfway closed.

The good guys at Speeze were nice enough to send over a sample of their P4 heatsink, the EasyStream™ 9T236B1M3. This is an aluminum extrusion unit with a fairly quiet fan.

The base

Base

was nicely finished – there were very slight polishing marks but barely discernible to the touch.

The fan is an Fanner Tech # FD07015B1M – a 70 x 15mm unit rated at 21.7 cfm @ 3500 rpm. I found it to be quiet – I measured its noise at 29 dBA @ 3950 rpm. It’s also safe to use a motherboard fan header – it draws 2.4 watts at 12 volts.

I found the clip about the best I ever used on a P4 – mounting and dismounting with this design was a breeze. The top lever articulates four arms which easily lock into a standard P4 bracket – a very nice implementation. The picture shows the lever arm halfway closed.

In summary, a fairly conventional aluminum extrusion heatsink with a very secure, easy to use clip for P4 use.

THE TEST

The EasyStream™ was first tested on the CPU Die Simulator which gives results that are unaffected by motherboard influences. I then tested it on an Lucky Star 4A845D with a modified P4 1500 to read CPU case temps, as an example of what users might see on their systems.

Delta = CPU temp – Ambient Temp
C/W = Delta / CPU Watts

Interpreting C/W: For every watt (CPUw) that the CPU
consumes, the HSF will limit the CPU’s temperature rise to (C/W x CPUw)
plus the temperature at the HSF’s fan inlet. For example, at an ambient temp of 25 C, a C/W of 0.25 with a CPU radiating 50 watts means that CPU temp will increase 50 x 0.25 = 12.5 C over ambient temp, or 37.5 C. The lower the C/W, the better.

Die Simulator results place the EasyStream™ in the lower rank of heatsinks (Heatsink Ranking).

CONCLUSIONS

Quiet means low airflow – the tradeoff is performance vs noise, and the EasyStream™ is one for consumers more interested in noise rather than all-out cooling performance.

Thanks again to Speeze for sending this our way.
