I currently have an HX1050 in my rig which is more than enough power for anything I need. I have an offer to sell my HX1050 for $150 and was considering using that to upgrade to a refurb AX1200i so I can go fully modular. What are your opinions on this and other than the fully modular capability of this PSU you think it's a decent deal for a refurb @ $179? It's a hell of a deal IMHO.

I'm mainly wanting to ditch the semi-mod crap so what would you guys do ?

If the corsair warranty is transferable to you/by serial number, then go for it. Outside of that, this is really up to you man. :)

I'd go with an EVGA SuperNova instead that's sized properly for your hardware instead of massive overkill.
