Holy reviews Batman. I barely just finished reading ATM's [emoji14]

Can't wait to start reading people's reviews of the 1700. That's the only one in my price range :(

From what I read, they OC the same as the 1800X's: no need to break the bank!

Just what I read. I'll keep an eye on the forums to see how everyone fairs. Still need to sell my GPU and ram anyways. But those reviews are removing some of my concerns. I am still unsure that I really benefit from an 8C, but at the same time, it fits my budget, and I really want to continue to support AMD. Would love to see some results with the 1700 stock cooler. I will need a new water block I am pretty sure, if I go the Ryzen route.

OCF will also have the 1700 and 1700X reviews up at a later date, FYI :)

I would prefer to wait until the models come out. I don't know how AMD will split the disabled cores in the CCXs to get down to 4c and 6c at this time.
It's very possible 6c could be a 3+3 situation (one core of each CCX disabled) while the 4c could be a single CCX.

Wouldn't that depend on which core on the die was suffering from the defect? Assuming AMD is using defective 8C CPUs as the 4/6 core CPUs.

That remains to be seen. I don't know if they will be consistent with what cores are disabled (i.e. 4+2 vs 3+3).
My assumption would be they would use the CCXs with four good cores for either 8c or 4c SKUs though.

That's probably true as well, but I'd assume they wouldn't trash dies that had 1-4 cores bad, and would just move them to a lower line. Seems the best way to reduce production costs, considering the testing is done on all chips for binning/QC purposes anyway. On the flip side having to disable different cores for each CPU could be a production nightmare if the system's aren't already in place to handle that.

As is I can selectively disable cores, so I'd assume they could do the same on production.
Question is, mainly for 6 core, would they perform better as 3+3 or 4+2? My assumption is 3+3 would be better due to how cache is split with CCXs.

I guess it depends on if it is like the older Phenom chips you could unlock. I thought production was moving towards hard(physically severing those parts of the CPU) cuts to prevent the unlocking. We may have to wait till AMD releases those products to truly know what they are doing.

If the 1700 overclocks just as well as the 1800X we might have a "new" A64 Opteron on our hands! Any 1600 benchmarks yet? It would be great if we can get more information on how Ryzen beats older intel sockets. I am sure many folks are hanging on to their ancient 2600K's or Haswell rigs and are wondering if it is worth the money to jump platforms? This ought to be an article in itself titled "Is it worth upgrading?"

I am reading OOC's results and it looks like Intel still has slightly better single threaded performance, but for some reason in their 1000 Mb RAR benchmark the 1700 outpaces the 1800X? Strange.

Added a few more (incl. Fr. and NL).

Edit: will add more after dinner. 7.30pM here in Venice (not California, hey? Italy ;)).

Added a few. Think it's enough for the 1800X :D Will chase 1700/1700X reviews tomorrow.

I'm waiting to see how the Chips overclock from retail stores, you never know if AMD did Binning for the review sites.
