Are you planning on overclocking at all? That will have a big impact on what RAM to choose.

Are you looking for 1GB (512x2) or just 512mb. For 1GB you may want to pay a little more then $180 for good overclockable RAM unless you want to shop on ebay or buy it used from someone.

If you don't need a gig and can get by with 2x256 then with these you can rule out ram as being the cause of any possible bottleneck, or if they do turn out to be your bottleneck, then you can call yourself one happy overclocker because you've got one mighty fine rig on your hands (in other words, I would love to have a rig where this ram was my slowest component).

Even though that is a good deal I doubt he would be able to overclock with that..

PQI Turbo seems to have gotten some good reviews when it comes to overclocking with looser settings since it uses Brainpower PCB's as posted in another thread using this article...http://www.legitreviews.com/article.php?aid=53&pid=1

Not only this, but Newegg has this PQI Turbo Series 1gb(512x2) PC3200 for $168 plus like five bucks shipping. It's 2.5-3-3-7 and not the Low-Lat 2-2-2-5 stuff for $240, but it still seems like it could work. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...141-154&depa=0

Do those actually use TCCD chips though? I don't think they do. Just because one model does, does not mean another would. AFAIK the Patriot RAM is the cheapest with TCCD chips on a brainpower PCB.

After looking on google it looks like only the PQI marked 2-2-2-5 on Newegg is TCCD. The one you linked to is not so the PDP memory is the cheapest with TCCD chips on a brainpower PCB.

Just googled it myself, so it is. Patriot is indeed the bargain in that case, although it seems sold out at Newegg at the moment. The TCCD version of the PQI Turbo seems to run $20 more then the Patriot.
